FAQs
Q: Is there a minimum length?
A: No. If it only takes a few sentences to tell your story, that’s fine.
Q: My piece is running a little over the maximum - is that okay?
A: Yes, within reason. The length is only a general guideline so that it doesn’t become one person’s book. And we can always edit, if need be.
Q: Does that mean you’ll change my story?
A: No, not at all. Most submissions will appear “as is.” (We reserve editorial rights.)
Q: I’m not sure my tale is interesting enough.
A: You’d be surprised! Not everything will appeal to everybody anyway. But odds are somebody reading it will relate to it.
Q: I have a great story, but I don’t feel confident as a writer.
A: No problem! We can work with you on it.
Q: Is poetry okay?
A: Yes!
Q: I’m not too fluent in English. Does it have to be written in English?
A: Yes. But again, we can help you make it clearer, if need be. Google has a translation feature that might be of some help to you. (We are hopeful that the book will eventually be translated into other languages!)
Q: I already posted my anecdote on the internet somewhere? Can I still submit it?
A: Absolutely! As long as you didn’t “publish” it anywhere (including a newspaper or magazine) that paid you or retained exclusive rights.
Q: It was in a Queen Fan Club magazine. Is that okay?
A: Jacky said that’s fine.
Q: I’m kind of stuck. Can you let me know the chapter headings?
A: Here are some ideas (though you are encouraged to submit whatever you come up with)
-Meeting any band members and/or freezing up when meeting them
-Missing a chance to meet the band or missing a concert you had tickets for/travel mishaps
-Following them on tour
-Talking to them on a radio call-in show (like Rock Line)
-Parties (with or without band members present)
-How/why you became a fan or how being a fan changed or impacted your life
-Queen tattoos
-Pets (or kids) named after the band
-Meeting your spouse or best friend through being a fan
-How Freddie’s passing affected you/where were you when you found out
-Winning a contest
-Night-time dreams, aspirations or premonitions
-How being a fan is tough due to geography, etc.
-Doors that have opened because you’re a fan (ex: a job, meeting other celebrities, etc.)
-Open letters to the band/something you’ve always wanted to say to any of them
* Please remember that Queen fans come in all nationalities, races, genders, and ages. Let's keep our stories appropriate for everyone. Thanks!
